Stop the Camping Ban on Shell Key...

Step 1: Join our mailing list
Please sign up with our mailing list at the right of this page to stay informed about our progress in preserving the privilege of camping on Shell Key and show your support for our plan.

Step 2: Send a message to county authorities!

Click here to send an email to the county staff in charge of updating the Shell Key Management Plan - as well as your county commissioners who will vote to approve it. We have some suggestions for you to mention below.

Your email will be sent to the following critical county personnel. If you have difficulty using the above email link, please send an email yourself to the individuals listed below.

County Commissioners:
Ronnie E. Duncan - rduncan@pinellascounty.org
Calvin D. Harris - charris@pinellascounty.org
Robert B. Stewart - rstewart@pinellascounty.org
Susan Latvala - slatvala@pinellascounty.org
Karen Williams Seel - kseel@pinellascounty.org
John Morroni - jmorroni@pinellascounty.org
Kenneth T. Welch - ktwelch@pinellascounty.org

County Staff:
Will Davis, Bureau Director (DEM) - wdavis@co.pinellas.fl.us
Pam Leasure (SKP Land Manager -DEM) - pleasure@co.pinellas.fl.us
Dr. Bruce Rinker (Research Director, DEM) - brinker@co.pinellas.fl.us

Suggestions for your email:

- Tell them that you DO NOT support a ban on camping.
- Tell them that you support the Shell Key.org plan to allow permitted camping.
- Tell the county that you are a responsible camper and follow the rules.
- Tell them why camping on Shell Key means so much to you and that there is no place left in the county for you to enjoy that experience.
- Add whatever else you think will show them that you are willing to do your part for preservation by respecting the rules.

Step 3: Pass the word!
This is critically important. We will fail to save camping on Shell Key if enough people do not make their voices heard. Please contact anyone you know who may be sympathetic to our cause and ask them to come to this website to spend 5 minutes joining our effort.

Step 4: Clean up after your neighbors and follow the rules...
When you go to the island, it is not enough to clean up after yourself. Spend a few minutes to remove any trash you find in your area - even if you did not leave it. It is a careless minority of visitors that will cause us to lose our privilege. Also, keep your pets under control follow all the preserve rules!
